Shoe Dog, by Phil Knight

“Catalog the past, map out the future. Don't settle for a job or a profession. Seek a calling, even if you don't know what it means. The fatigue will be easier to bear, the disappointments will be fuel, the highs will be like nothing you've ever felt.”

Finished the audiobook for the third time.

The first was back in 2017, then again in 2019. After a couple of years mostly focused on work, staying at home, and just trying to manage life as it came, I finally played this gem again.

Noice.

What I like about Shoe Dog is that the story never really feels like some perfectly calculated path toward success.

A lot of it is uncertainty.

Bad decisions.

Cash problems.

People taking chances on ideas that could have easily failed.

Plans changing because reality had other ideas.

And yet, they kept moving.

I think that's what stayed with me this time around.

Regardless of whether the scales are tipping in your favor, you still have to work with whatever is in front of you.

The resources you have.

The people willing to help.

The mistakes you've already made.

The opportunities that somehow survived all of those mistakes.

You don't always get ideal conditions before starting something.

Sometimes you just start, adjust along the way, take the hits, and figure out the next move when you get there.

Maybe the path becomes clearer later.

Maybe it doesn't.

Either way, you keep moving.

In short:

Just do it.
